Water Bowls, Walls and Fountain Enclosures
A feature may use Corten steel as the visible outer body, with a separate liner, basin or hydraulic system handling the water. Define the arrangement early: a decorative enclosure and a complete recirculating fountain are different supply scopes.
Design options may include standing bowls, vertical water walls, rain-curtain surrounds or pond-edge waterfall elements. Send the intended layout and water effect rather than selecting only by overall appearance. Pumping, filtration and lighting must be confirmed separately if required.
Water Feature Enquiry Checklist
| Detail | What to specify |
|---|---|
| Geometry | Overall dimensions, basin or bowl size, wall height, water-entry points and visible faces. |
| Water arrangement | Recirculating or other design, expected wet areas, reservoir position and overflow strategy. |
| Component scope | Corten body, liner, pump, pipework, filtration, lighting and controls to be included or supplied by others. |
| Exposure | Indoor/outdoor location, water chemistry, nearby finishes and seasonal operating conditions. |
| Maintenance | Cleaning access, drainage, component access and intended shutdown procedure. |
Provide drawings with connection positions and the proposed support surface. No universal pump size, water volume or waterproof rating can be selected from the steel dimensions alone.
Continuous Wetting and Material Separation
A protective atmospheric patina should not be assumed to provide the same behaviour under constant immersion or flowing water. The designer should establish how the steel is protected or isolated at wet surfaces and how any lining is joined, inspected and maintained.
Water treatment, dissolved salts and cleaning products may affect the materials in the system. Confirm compatibility with the responsible equipment suppliers and designer. Do not assume suitability for fish ponds, drinking water or swimming pools from a decorative Corten description.
Hydraulic and Electrical Interfaces
Plan the complete feature around access for servicing and safe water management. The hydraulic design should address flow, splash, overflow and the consequences of a stopped pump. Supporting surfaces must suit the full operating weight, including water.
Any powered pump or lighting requires equipment suitable for the location and installation by an appropriately qualified professional under local requirements. The steel enclosure itself does not establish an electrical ingress-protection rating or approval for use near water.
Finish, Run-off and Landscape Coordination
Agree the delivery surface and the appearance expected as the steel weathers. Water paths can create uneven colouring, and run-off may stain surrounding paving or masonry. Detail the feature so these effects are managed rather than treated as a guaranteed uniform finish.
Coordinate adjacent Corten steel planters or garden light enclosures through a shared drawing schedule while keeping their different drainage and equipment requirements clear.
Request a Water Feature Quotation
Send dimensions, drawings, quantity, required steel grade if specified, delivery finish and destination. List every component needed and identify who owns hydraulic design, electrical installation and commissioning. Material certificates and inspection can be discussed with the offer; neither current stock nor a complete working system is implied before the scope is agreed.
Technical and Safety References
Steel Construction Info technical guidance; Electrical Safety First outdoor electrical guidance. Guidance must be applied to the actual product, location and project; it is not certification of an offered configuration.
International Project Enquiries
ASC welcomes project enquiries from the USA, UK, Europe, Canada, Brazil and other international destinations. Include the delivery location and required date so packing, availability and logistics can be addressed in the quotation.
Corten Steel Water Features FAQs
Is the pump included?
Only when specified and confirmed in the offer. State the required complete-system or steel-only scope and identify the hydraulic design responsibility.
Can Corten steel remain constantly submerged?
Do not assume suitability from its atmospheric weathering properties. Continuous-wetting surfaces need a material and protection assessment for the intended water conditions.
Is a liner necessary?
The design determines the water-retaining arrangement. Specify a suitable liner or other system where required and confirm joints, compatibility and maintenance access.
Can the feature be used in a fish pond?
Water chemistry, coatings and all wetted materials require review for that use. A decorative water-feature description is not an aquatic-safety approval.
Will the water stain surrounding paving?
Rust-coloured water or splash can affect adjacent finishes. Incorporate splash control, drainage and suitable surrounding materials in the design.
What information is needed to quote?
Send the overall dimensions, water-effect drawing, component list, exposure, finish, quantity and destination, including any inspection requirements.
