Pathway Bollards and Decorative Light Housings
Corten steel can provide a weathered outer housing for pathway lights, patterned lantern-style enclosures or project-specific landscape lighting. The opening pattern and diffuser arrangement influence the appearance, but the selected light source and optical design determine the delivered illumination.
Enquiries may involve a steel housing only or a coordinated assembly with agreed electrical components. State whether lamps, LEDs, drivers, cabling, controls or solar equipment are required. Do not assume that a decorative cover is a complete outdoor luminaire.
Garden Light Specification Checklist
| Detail | What to specify |
|---|---|
| Housing | Height, width or diameter, wall thickness where specified, cut-out pattern and access panels. |
| Mounting | Base plate or ground arrangement, fixing details, service access and cable entry position. |
| Light performance | Required illumination, distribution, colour temperature and glare-control brief. |
| Electrical scope | Power source, driver, controls, electrical protection and equipment responsibilities. |
| Environment | Rain/splash exposure, landscape irrigation, corrosion conditions and required verified ratings. |
Provide the project lighting schedule and layout when available. Housing dimensions alone do not determine spacing, wattage or suitability for a route used by the public.
Electrical Compliance and Outdoor Exposure
The electrical designer and installer should select components suitable for their location and local requirements. Water ingress, cable entries, access and protective measures must be assessed for the complete assembly. A test rating belonging to an internal component cannot automatically be assigned to a different finished housing.
If a specific IP classification or certification is required, include it in the enquiry and confirm the supporting evidence before ordering. Solar-powered and low-voltage options still need appropriate component selection and documentation; neither description eliminates installation responsibilities.
Light Pattern, Glare and Public Spaces
Patterned steel can create attractive shadows, but lighting for paths or steps must remain functional. Consider glare, visibility of obstacles and whether the chosen cut-outs leave dark areas where continuous illumination is needed. A decorative proposal should be checked against the project’s lighting brief.
For public spaces, also consider sharp edges, access to electrical components and the risk of impact or vandalism. A lighting bollard is not automatically a vehicle restraint or security barrier. Any impact-rated function requires separate design and evidence.
Weathered Finish and Landscape Details
Agree the raw or pre-weathered delivery condition and how adjacent finishes will be protected from run-off. Irrigation outlets should not keep vulnerable details constantly wet. Access panels, base interfaces and fasteners should be addressed by the approved design.
Pair the lighting scheme with planters or Corten steel signage without assuming identical electrical or structural specifications across the products.
Request a Project Lighting Enquiry
Send the housing drawing, quantity, finish, site conditions and delivery destination. Include the lighting schedule, required electrical documentation and exact component scope. ASC will review the steel supply enquiry and confirm the offered configuration, packing and lead time in the quotation.
Technical and Safety References
Electrical Safety First outdoor electrical guidance. Guidance must be applied to the actual product, location and project; it is not certification of an offered configuration.
International Project Enquiries
ASC welcomes project enquiries from the USA, UK, Europe, Canada, Brazil and other international destinations. Include the delivery location and required date so packing, availability and logistics can be addressed in the quotation.
Corten Steel Garden Lights FAQs
Are LEDs and drivers included?
Only if they form part of the agreed quotation. Distinguish an enclosure-only requirement from a complete luminaire assembly.
Are all Corten garden lights waterproof?
No universal rating can be assumed. Specify the required tested ingress protection and confirm evidence for the complete assembly, not only one component.
Can the lights be solar powered?
Identify the desired power arrangement in the enquiry. Panel, battery, controls and lighting performance must be reviewed as a system and confirmed in the offer.
Does the bollard stop vehicles?
A lighting bollard should not be treated as an impact-rated barrier. Vehicle-restraint performance requires a separate engineered and tested product.
Can a custom pattern be cut into the housing?
Send the artwork and dimensions for review. The pattern must also suit structural integrity, glare, light distribution and equipment protection.
What is needed for pricing?
Provide dimensions, quantity, lighting and power brief, mounting, required ratings, finish and delivery destination.
