These ranges are not automatic equivalents; the complete grade and product specification identify the required material.
Corten Plate, Sheet and Coil Dimensions
ASC quotes flat products by the required material, thickness, width and cut length or coil dimensions. The available combinations depend on grade, form and delivery condition and are confirmed in the material offer.
Standard scope varies substantially between products. For example, EN 10025-5:2019 WP grades have a 12 mm flat-product ceiling, while ASTM A588/A588M-24 covers material up to 8 in [200 mm] thick. These are specification boundaries, not a common stock range for every Corten product.

For each 0.01 percentage-point reduction below the specified carbon maximum, the manganese maximum may increase by 0.06 percentage points, up to 1.50%. This reference uses the stated 2019 edition; the ordered edition and analysis basis govern material acceptance.

Grade-Specific Mechanical Properties
Strength and elongation depend on the material grade, thickness and testing basis. These selected ASTM A588 plate values retain their stated thickness and specimen conditions. The individual grade pages provide the other material references.

Transverse tensile testing to ASTM A6 requirements. For plate wider than 24 in, reduce the baseline elongation requirement by two percentage points. Below 5/16 in thickness, ASTM A6 elongation adjustments also apply, together with other applicable specimen adjustments.
These published grade requirements do not identify a standard edition. The values are a selected reference for the thickness band shown; the edition specified for the order governs acceptance.

Applications for Weathering Flat Products
Structural fabricators use specified weathering plate in buildings, bridge-related components and industrial steelwork. Architectural metalworkers use sheet and flat stock for screens, facade elements and exposed features designed for natural weathering.
IRSM 41-97 material serves rolling-stock requirements where the component drawing calls for that specification. Coil and sheet buyers may carry out downstream forming or cutting, with the material condition selected for the intended process.
Patina and Outdoor Performance
Weathering steel develops a protective surface through suitable cycles of wetting and drying. Good drainage and details that avoid standing water are important; persistent moisture and significant chloride exposure need assessment.
Run-off can stain adjacent concrete, paving and finishes. Colour and texture evolve with exposure, so a naturally weathered surface should not be treated as a uniform paint finish.

What is the difference between Corten plate, sheet and coil?

Which weathering-steel grade should a project specify?
The design and service requirements determine the grade. ASTM, EN, Corten A/B and IRSM descriptions have different material and product requirements; one should not be substituted solely because the appearance is similar.
Is Corten B the same as ASTM A588 Grade B?
No automatic equivalence should be assumed. ASTM A588 Grade B is a defined ASTM grade, while Corten B is a material description. The supplied specification and documents establish compliance.
Does ASTM A606 Type 4 include all plate sizes?
No. It is a sheet and strip specification with rolling-condition, thickness and form restrictions. A commercial plate description does not extend that specification to every discrete structural plate.
Can Corten steel flat products be used unpainted?
They can be in applications where the design and environment support protective weathering. Drying, drainage, chloride exposure and run-off staining need assessment. Railway or other project-specific coating requirements still apply.
Can I request material documents and additional inspection?
Yes. Mill test certificates and additional inspection can be requested with the order. The agreed documents should correspond to the actual material, condition and required tests.
