Original Sculpture and Garden-Art Designs
Possible formats include geometric cubes, rings, abstract forms, silhouette panels, wall art and garden stakes. A sketch can start a discussion, but a production design needs clear dimensions, material thickness, visible faces and an agreed interpretation of the finished shape. Thin silhouettes and three-dimensional assemblies have different fabrication and handling needs.
Use an original design, a commissioned work with the necessary permissions or artwork you are authorised to reproduce. A reference photograph can communicate a preferred style, but it should not be treated as permission to copy another artist’s sculpture or a supplier’s protected product design.
Information for a Sculpture Quotation
| Requirement | What to specify |
|---|---|
| Form and size | Overall height, width and depth; hollow or solid construction; drawing or model revision. |
| Material | Specified weathering-steel grade, thickness and any required material documents. |
| Surface | Raw or agreed pre-weathered appearance, visible weld treatment and sample approval if required. |
| Mounting | Base plate, plinth, wall fixing or ground installation; identify who designs the anchorage. |
| Delivery | Maximum transport dimensions, lifting points, site access and installation responsibilities. |
For multi-part work, show the assembly sequence and joint positions. Confirm whether the offer covers the steel artwork only or also the supporting base, anchors and site installation. None of these accessories should be inferred from a rendering.
Public-Space and Landscape Installation
Large or elevated artworks need an assessment of stability, wind exposure, support conditions and public contact. The engineering scope depends on the actual form and location; a plate thickness is not a load rating. Wall-mounted artwork also needs suitable substrate and fixing design.
Review sharp edges, finger traps, projections and the possibility of climbing where people can approach the work. The installation should preserve pedestrian routes and allow maintenance access. A garden stake or decorative silhouette is not automatically suitable for an unsupervised public setting.
Patina, Appearance and Nearby Materials
Weathering colour changes with exposure and may differ between sheltered and exposed faces. Agree whether the delivery surface is raw or treated, and define how any sample will be used for acceptance. Natural patina is not a uniform paint colour and does not guarantee an exact match to an existing artwork.
Plan where rainwater will leave the piece so that run-off does not mark sensitive paving, stone or walls. Hollow forms need appropriate drainage and moisture detailing. General weathering-steel guidance is useful, but the artwork’s own design still requires review.
Technical and Safety References
Steel Construction Info technical guidance. Guidance must be applied to the actual product, location and project; it is not certification of an offered configuration.
International Project Enquiries
ASC welcomes project enquiries from the USA, UK, Europe, Canada, Brazil and other international destinations. Include the delivery location and required date so packing, availability and logistics can be addressed in the quotation.
Corten Steel Sculptures and Garden Art FAQs
Can you quote an original custom sculpture?
Yes. Send your concept, authorised artwork or drawing with dimensions and quantity for review. The fabrication, finish and supporting components are confirmed in the quotation.
Can a photograph be used as the production drawing?
A photograph can be a visual reference, but it rarely defines thickness, hidden structure or mounting. A dimensioned, approved design is needed before fabrication.
Are foundations and installation included?
Only when explicitly agreed. The steel artwork, base, anchors, foundations, lifting and installation can be separate responsibilities.
Will the sculpture arrive fully rust-coloured?
The delivery surface must be specified. Raw and pre-weathered finishes are different options, and exposure can continue to change their appearance.
Can the same design be used indoors?
Indoor appearance, surface rub-off, contact with furnishings and the installation detail need review. Indoor conditions do not develop patina in the same way as outdoor exposure.
Is every steel grade suitable for garden art?
The actual grade should match the design and exposure requirements. The word Corten does not replace an agreed material specification.
What is needed for a quotation?
Send the design, size, quantity, material and finish requirements, mounting information, delivery location and any inspection or sample approvals.
