Facade Panels, Cassettes and Decorative Wall Faces
Corten cladding can provide a weathering-steel exterior face, but the panel format needs to match the architectural and engineering details. Folded edges, perforations and joint positions affect fabrication, handling and appearance. A panel schedule should identify each size and type.
Specify whether the enquiry is for metal components alone or a wider support system. Decorative wall panels, rainscreen faces and complete curtain-wall assemblies have different functions and should not be described as the same product.
Specification and Quotation Checklist
| Detail | What to specify |
|---|---|
| Panel format | Flat, perforated or folded/cassette geometry, dimensions and quantity. |
| Material | Weathering grade, thickness, delivery condition and certificate requirements. |
| Connections | Support rails, brackets, fixing locations, joints and tolerances. |
| Envelope | Cavity, water-control layers, insulation, penetrations and adjacent interfaces. |
| Acceptance | Appearance, dimensional checks, required test evidence and installation documentation. |
Water Management and Interfaces
A building envelope must manage water at joints, corners and penetrations as well as across the panel face. The design should coordinate cavities, drainage and the layers behind the visible metal. A weathering surface is not a substitute for a suitable water-control strategy.
Pay particular attention to window interfaces, parapets, base details and changes of material. Runoff from weathering steel can stain adjacent surfaces, so discharge paths should be planned rather than left to the panel installer to improvise.
Supports, Movement and Panel Loads
The support system must suit panel weight, wind and the movement expected in the assembly. Brackets, rails and fixings need to be compatible with the substrate and approved detail. Material thickness alone does not determine an allowable panel size.
Show fixing positions, joint widths and fabrication tolerances on the drawings. A sample or first-off panel may help agree appearance, but it is not structural or weather-tightness certification. Specify the actual inspection and testing evidence required.
Fire, Thermal and Acoustic Requirements
Fire behaviour, insulation and acoustics belong to the complete facade build-up, including layers and connections not visible from outside. Do not infer a wall-system rating from the steel face alone. The project team must identify applicable rules and evidence for the assembly.
For patterned components without a facade-system role, see Corten steel laser cut sheets. For the roof application, use the separate roofing-sheet enquiry and its profile and drainage requirements.
Material and Supply Confirmation
Specify the required weathering-steel grade and delivery condition. Chemical composition and mechanical properties follow the selected base-material specification; there is no universal technical table for every fabricated configuration. Any certificate, traceability or inspection requirement should be included in the enquiry.
ASC is a supplier, exporter and stockist welcoming international enquiries. Send the quantity, drawings, required finish and destination. Current availability, packing and lead time are confirmed in the offer, together with exactly which components and processing are included.
Technical and Safety References
Steel Construction Info technical guidance. Guidance must be applied to the actual product, location and project; it is not certification of an offered configuration.
International Project Enquiries
ASC welcomes project enquiries from the USA, UK, Europe, Canada, Brazil and other international destinations. Include the delivery location and required date so packing, availability and logistics can be addressed in the quotation.
Corten Steel Cladding and Facade Panels FAQs
Are cladding panels a complete facade system?
Not automatically. The quotation must identify panels, supports and other components included. The complete envelope requires a coordinated design.
Can folded cassettes be quoted?
Send dimensioned drawings showing returns, corners, fixing locations and tolerances. The offered fabrication scope is confirmed after review.
Does Corten steel make a facade waterproof?
No. Water management depends on joints, interfaces, cavities and underlying layers as well as the face material.
Are fire ratings included?
Only documented ratings for the relevant assembly can support such a claim. A steel panel alone does not establish complete facade fire performance.
Will all panels have the same colour?
Natural exposure produces variation. Agree delivery condition and any appearance sample or acceptance process rather than assuming a permanent uniform colour.
Can perforations be used?
Submit the pattern and facade requirements. Perforations affect appearance, loading and the role of layers behind the panel.
What material documents are needed?
Specify the grade, inspection certificate and traceability requirements. Testing of the assembled facade is a separate matter.
What should I send for a quote?
Provide panel schedules, drawings, grade, finish, support details, quantity, inspection needs and delivery destination.
