Log-Storage Shapes and Practical Capacity
The product family includes circular racks, geometric compartments, house-shaped forms and modular arrangements. Choose a form that accommodates the intended log length and allows access to the lower sections without destabilising the stack. Overall outside dimensions do not equal usable storage capacity.
State the approximate volume of wood you wish to store, the typical log length and whether the rack is primarily seasonal storage or a small day-to-day supply. Internal dividers, back panels and covers can affect both usable space and ventilation, so these details should be shown on the drawing.
Wood-Store Specification Checklist
| Requirement | What to specify |
|---|---|
| Dimensions | Overall height, width and depth, or diameter and depth; internal compartment sizes. |
| Capacity | Intended wood volume or loading requirement, log length and arrangement. |
| Construction | Material grade, wall and support details, divider layout and edge treatment. |
| Position | Freestanding or fixed, ground surface, exposure, wall clearances and drainage. |
| Supply | Assembly format, covers or accessories, finish, quantity and destination. |
Confirm whether modules are independent or connected and identify any fixing requirements. Stacking several decorative units creates a different stability condition from a single unit and must be assessed as an assembly.
Airflow, Rain Protection and Ground Moisture
Firewood storage should allow air to circulate and protect the wood from unnecessary wetting. A tight decorative enclosure may restrict drying, while a fully open rack offers little rain protection. Select the arrangement for the storage purpose rather than assuming that every log rack seasons wood effectively.
The US EPA Burn Wise resources include firewood storage guidance. Keep fuel storage separate from the clearances and operating instructions for any fireplace or fire pit. A metal rack does not make combustible logs safe to place next to a heat source.
Support, Access and Stability
The rack and its supporting surface need to accommodate the loaded condition, not only the empty steel shell. Consider uneven loading as logs are removed, children or pets near the unit, and access for cleaning. Fixings, base details and any wall attachments should be agreed for the installation.
Allow water and debris to escape instead of collecting beneath the lowest logs or in closed pockets. Where the rack rests on paving or a terrace, review run-off and contact staining. Handling arrangements should be planned before the rack is filled.
Finish and Supply Requirements
Specify the weathering-steel grade if controlled by the project and agree the delivery surface. Raw steel and a pre-weathered appearance are not interchangeable descriptions. A natural finish varies with location, so exact colour uniformity should not be assumed.
Send a sketch or drawing, dimensions, quantity, destination and required date for a quotation. If coordinating with outdoor fireplaces or fire pits, keep each product’s installation requirements separate. Confirm material documents, packing and included accessories in the offer.

Corten Steel Log Stores FAQs
How is log-store capacity specified?
Provide the intended wood volume, typical log length and internal dimensions. External diameter or height alone does not establish the usable capacity.
Will a Corten rack keep all firewood dry?
Not automatically. Rain protection, airflow, log arrangement and the site conditions affect storage. Choose the design for its intended use.
Can modular units be stacked?
Only in an arrangement assessed for loading, stability and connections. A free-standing module is not automatically a safe stacking system.
Can the rack sit beside a fireplace?
Follow the fireplace manufacturer’s fuel-storage and clearance instructions. Logs remain combustible even when held in a steel rack.
Are covers or rear panels included?
Only as listed in the quotation. Specify covers, dividers, back panels and fixing components when requesting a price.
Will the rack mark paving?
Weathering run-off and prolonged contact can affect adjacent finishes. Consider drainage and separation details for the installation.
What should I send for pricing?
Send the shape, dimensions, intended capacity, quantity, finish, support arrangement and delivery destination.
