J525 tube
For hydraulic lines and other applications requiring flexible and bendable tubing, we also produce cold drawn and annealed seamless low carbon steel pressure tubing. Hoses that meet SAE J525 specifications are available in 20-foot lengths. The material is made from.
A weld mill was used to roll flat sheets of raw material. During hydraulic fluid line applications, this material is dead soft when produced, making it easy to bend and flare. There are AISI classes 1008 and 1010, as well as 1020 and 1026. The tube is suitable for cold working after a normalizing heat treatment
For pressure lines and other applications requiring flexibility, forming, and brazing capabilities, this standard specifies normalised electric-resistance welded, cold-drawn, single-wall, low-carbon steel pressure tubing.
SAE J525 Steel Tube is suitable for hydraulic applications and other applications requiring tubing with a quality suitable for flaring and bending. The ODs and IDs of our tubes are exceptionally clean and bright, and they are shipped with capped ends to prevent contamination.
Our company manufactures, supplies, exports, and distributes low carbon steel pipes and tubing. We supply and stock welded tubing based on SAE J525 Steel Tube for hydraulic parts. When tubes are specified by their diameters (or their inner diameters) and their nominal wall thicknesses, they must have tolerances that correspond with the diameter and no thickness variation exceeding 10%.
Quality
After normalizing the tubing, cold working must be performed. In cold working, the walls must be reduced by at least 8 percent, resulting in a minimum reduction of 15 percent. An annealed product that meets all specifications will be produced by cold-working the tubing.
This hydraulic tube is made of welded low-carbon steel tubing that has been annealed for bending and flaring. High-quality tubing for bending, flaring, forming, and brazing. The hydraulic components are used in heavy equipment, agriculture, off-road vehicles, automotive, steering and transmission components, process and utility applications, and other hydraulic applications.
In addition, after final sizing, our J525 high-pressure tubing undergoes several cold-drawn reductions, intermediate anneals, and a dead-soft anneal. Thus, the tubing is consistently of high quality and is easy to bend and flare.
With similar chemical and mechanical properties, both J524 and J525 are used in hydraulic applications. J525 is welded from flat stock, on the other hand. Flaring is usually best achieved with J524 Seamless. However, both products are of high quality and have similar specifications.

The Tubing Shall Conform To The Following Requirements
Tensile Strength | 45,000 psi minimum |
Yield | 25,000 minimum |
Elongation in 2 inch | 35 percent* minimum |
Rockwell Hardness | B65 maximum |
Flattening Test
A section at least three inches in length shall be taken from every 1500 feet or less of finished tubing and shall be flattened between parallel plates to three times the wall thickness of the tube. The weld shall be placed at a point of 90 degrees from the direction of applied force. Any cracking or flaws revealed by this test shall be cause for rejection. Superficial ruptures resulting from minor surface imperfections shall not be cause for rejection.
Reverse Flattening Test
A section at least four inches in length shall be taken from every 1500 feet or less of finished tubing and split longitudinally 90 degrees on each side of the weld and the sample opened and flattened. There shall be no evidence of cracks or lack of penetration or overlaps resulting from flash removal in the weld.
Welded Hydraulic Tubing
EXPANSION TEST — A suitable specimen shall be taken from every 1500 feet or less of tubing and subjected to an expansion over a plug. The outside diameter must be expanded 25 percent throughout a length equal to the outside diameter of the tubing or one inch, whichever is greater. There shall be no evidence of cracking in this test.
Pressure Or Electrical Test
Tubing supplied under this specification shall have been hydrostatically tested at a fibre stress of 20,000 psi or at an actual pressure of 5,000 psi, whichever is less, based on the applicable minimum wall, or tested by use of a non-destructive electrical test approved by the purchaser.
Dimensions
When tubing is specified by outside diameter and inside diameter, the tolerances shown in the table shall apply.
Nominal Outside Diameter, Inches | OD inches | ID inches |
3/8 | ±0.002 | ±0.005 |
Over 3/8 to 5/8 inclusive | ±0.0025 | ±0.0025 |
Over 5/8 to 2 inclusive | ±0.003 | ±0.003 |
Over 2 to 2-1/2 inclusive | ±0.004 | ±0.004 |
Tolerances for the specified outside diameter (or inside diameter) and the nominal wall thickness shall apply to tubing specified by outside diameter (or inside diameter) and nominal wall thickness.
Pressure Ratings, Steel Tubing For General Hydraulic System Applications
This chart shows the nominal pressure ratings for tubing products based on SAE J525 Steel Tube. These pressure ratings were calculated using the Lame formula with 12,500 PSI (86MPa) stress factors and a 4:1 design factor. The SAE J533 recommends 37 degrees of single flaring for tubing with a normal wall thickness for the wall thicknesses shown in bold.
A variety of factors determine whether hydraulic systems perform satisfactorily at different pressures. Neither the values listed below should be construed as standards or specifications. Equivalent specifications for SAE J525 steel tubes
