Corten B Weathering Steel
Corten B is a weather-resistant steel ideal for heavy and load-bearing structures. When exposed to the elements, it forms a protective rust layer on its surface. This layer prevents further corrosion of the steel underneath, making it a low-maintenance option compared to other structural steels.
Typically, Corten B steel does not need painting or other maintenance, as the natural rust finish protects the steel. However, if the steel remains constantly wet, such as where it meets the ground or is partially submerged, the protective layer may not form, and painting or additional maintenance may be necessary.
ASTM Corten B is a hot-rolled structural steel with enhanced atmospheric corrosion resistance. This steel grade conforms to ASTM standards and features a yield strength of 355 MPa, which varies based on thickness.
Corten B is well-suited for heavy and load-bearing structures due to its weather-resistant properties. It develops a protective rust layer when exposed to atmospheric elements, which safeguards the steel beneath it. This natural finish typically eliminates the need for maintenance or painting, offering a cost-effective alternative to traditional structural steels.
