What is ASTM A242 ?

ASTM A242 is a specification for low-alloy structural steel with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance and higher temperature resistance. Steel plates with a thickness of up to half an inch are normally covered by this specification. ASTM A242 is used primarily in the fabrication of ASTM A242 can withstand sustained temperatures to 800F.

The corrosion resistance of A242 is superior to that of carbon steels such as A36 and A572-50 with or without copper addition. Unpainted, A242 is suitable for many applications when properly exposed to the atmosphere. The ASTM A242 has two grades, Type 1 and Type 2, with Type 1 being the most commonly used.

ASTM 242 TYPE 2 PLATES have a number of properties that make them suitable for use in various industries. Plates that are manufactured have properties such as corrosion resistance, great ductility, durability, high tensile strength, and stability in high temperature and working conditions.
